In a troubling sign for our aging population, it was recently reported that nearly half of American families have no retirement savings.

While many still have time to rectify that situation, others are already working well into their 80s and still can’t make ends meet.

So when Joel Macias saw an 89 year old Fidencio Sanchez struggling to push his paleta (popsicle) cart through the streets of Chicago, he decided to do something about it.

After buying $50 worth of popsicles, Macias set up a GoFundMe to “help make life a little easier” for Sanchez. With more than $250,000 raised in three days, Fidencio Sanchez can finally start thinking about life after popsicles.
